Touring Local Breweries (March-April)

Late March early April members of Meadman LLC toured some neighboring breweries in hopes of future partnership for producing braggots ( a mead with grain and hops) with local breweries and enjoying a few drinks.
We're looking for a couple different partnership options and ideas to produce some new flavors. we're either looking for a non alcoholic beer additive that can be blended into an existing mead to make a pseudo-braggot that follows WV law or to work under another brewery to produce a recipe and braggot that can be carried under both establishments.
Breweries Visited: Chestnut Brewing (Morgantown, WV) ; Short Story Brewing (Rivesville, WV) ; Screech Owl Brewing/ Spent Grain Cafe (Bruceton Mills, WV) ; High Ground Brewing (Tera Alta, WV)
Chestnut Brewing

A local stapple of the Morgantown members of Meadman LLC with a rotating selection of craft beers there is never a shortage of new flavors or recipes to try.
members of Meadman have been visiting Chestnut brew works for a couple years and with recent progress towards becoming a business have frequented the location for advice from the owner as well as to visit Mollee their old locations bar dog.
Favorites: The Bloob, Dad Jokes, Stunt Hawg and South Park Porter
The Bloob (Fruit Beer): Easy-drinking blonde ale with blueberries aroma and flavor, dark purple color. 4.8% ABV
Dad Jokes (Pilsner): I would describe it as an easy to drink garage beer, that you would enjoy on a hot day after mowing the lawn or chorin' 5.1% ABV
Stunt Hawg (Hazy New England IPA) : 6.2% ABV
South Park Porter (Porter): A black colored robust porter boasting nutty and malty flavors/aromas, and finishing with a slightly sweet, slightly piney character from late addition Chinook hops. 5.8% ABV
Short Story Brewing

A first time visit for members, Short story brewing isn't that far out of the way (Rivesville) but haven't had the need or chance to travel down and visit with them regularly being in events in Morgantown and being a guest draft at most bars.
with this being the first new brewery visited we ordered a flight of their stouts, red and lager.
One of the drinks that stood out was their Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout, Strange Notion,
The stout has a smooth chocolate and coffee forward taste with a spicy exhale that we enjoyed.
We'll be visiting again to sample more!
Screech Owl Brewing

Another first time visit for members, Screech Owl is out of the way (Bruceton Mills) but has the rural farm to table vibe that a lot of breweries and restaurants can't seem to get without becoming snobby or too expensive.
within minutes of sitting down and getting a flight ordered the owner and brew master was shaking our hand and introducing themselves.
With this first visit we didn't developed a favorite from this brewery but will likely get one after a few more visits. hopefully paired with some more of their homemade pepperoni rolls.
High Ground Brewing

A long time needed first time visit for members, High Ground Brewing is out of the way (Tera Alta) but holds a death grasp to some members interests. Most guests know each other and the owner, and the business welcomes outside food to be brought in and enjoyed with their beverages. Inside the the building the bar is decorated with classic horror genre decorations, traditional style and sailor jerry style tattoos, and dive bar aesthetics.
When the weather is good they hold outdoor events and bands and we will need to revisit them another time, both for the outdoor events and for a couple more rounds of drinks to determine a favorite.
Lastly other than having a diverse type of beers available on tap and able to acquire flights of, this was only about a third of the selection offered after mentioning a few types that we would have no interest in drinking
Something I find enjoyable and impressive is their binder that contains every beverage produced by them. Personally that would be a great object of pride having records of every beverage produce so that it can be revisited, reproduced or reminisce by visitors and brewers alike.
